Dr. Andrew Lynn (he/they)

Principal Investigator

Dr. Andrew Lynn is an Assistant Professor in Psychological & Brain Sciences at the University of Louisville where he also serves as the Director of The Attention in NeuroDevelopment (AND) Lab.

He completed his PhD in Psychology at Brown University and his postdoctoral training at Vanderbilt University. His primary research goal is to understand how children’s brain development is related to their attention & academic abilities, and how their early environments and experiences shape this development.

More broadly, he is dedicated to communicating scientific findings to the public, supporting the next generation of scientists, and equitably supporting children & families. When he’s not working on research or teaching, he’s playing fetch with his dog, Reese, watching TV and movies, cooking, or gardening.

    Dilara Kessafoglu (she/her)

    Graduate Student

    Dilara is a PhD student at the University of Louisville, working under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Lynn. She holds a BA in Psychology and an MA in Cognitive Psychology from Koc University, Turkiye, where she conducted research under the mentorship of Dr. Aylin Kuntay. Her primary research focuses on how screen use influences children’s attention and executive functions. In the AND lab, she aims to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying these effects. Beyond academia, Dilara enjoys exploring art and history, traveling, and hiking.

    Vivian Garcia (she/her)

    Research Coordinator

    Vivian graduated from MIT in 2024 with a B.S. in Brain and Cognitive Sciences. She is broadly interested in how early experiences affect the way children navigate and make sense of the world around them. When not in the lab, you can find her reading a book, lounging with her cat Figgy, or trying out a new hobby. In the future, Vivian hopes to earn a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.

    Ahmad Albakri (he/him)

    Undergraduate Researcher

    Ahmad Albakri (he/him) is a sophomore at the University of Louisville majoring in Neuroscience B.S on the pre-med track. He joined the lab due to an interest in the psychology and neural development of children, specifically as it relates to education. He likes sports, music, and cinema, and he hopes to go onto medical school after he obtains his degree and become a surgeon.

    Leah Alfalah (she/her)

    Undergraduate Researcher

    Leah Alfalah (she/her) is a sophomore at the University of Louisville pursuing a B.S. in Neuroscience on the pre-med track. She joined the lab to explore how attention is influenced in young and developing brains. Outside of academics, Leah enjoys reading, listening to music, traveling, and cooking. After completing her degree, she aspires to attend medical school and specialize as a pediatric neurologist.

    Georgia Chlebek (she/her)

    Undergraduate Researcher

    Georgia Chlebek (she/her) is a freshman at the University of Louisville pursuing a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Interdisciplinary Data Science.  She joined the lab because she is interested in gaining research experience in efforts to pursue a career in the field as it relates to brain development, cognition, and functioning. Outside of the lab, she enjoys spending her time studying, listening to music, baking, and hanging out with friends.

    Jack Dawson (he/him)

    Undergraduate Researcher

    Jack Dawson (he/him) is a junior at the University of Louisville majoring in Psychology B.S. and minoring in Philosophy. He joined the lab to understand how attention is affected in young and developing brains. He is interested in doing clinical work, and is excited to learn how different people are affected by their environment to further his knowledge of diagnosing and assessing patients in the future. In his free time, you can find him reading, watching a new movie, or spending time with his friends.

    Emma Fellows (she/her)

    Undergraduate Researcher

    Emma Fellows (she/her) is a sophomore at the University of Louisville pursuing a B.S. in Psychology. She joined the lab because she would like to gain experience in the field of research and one day would like to work with children as an art therapist. In her free time, she enjoys painting, listening to music, baking, and crocheting.

    Rebekah Flowers (she/her)

    Undergraduate Researcher

    Rebekah Flowers (she/her) is a senior double-majoring in Psychology and Fine Arts: Photography. She is a Honors Scholar, Porter Scholar, and Martin Luther King Scholar. Within the Brain and Attention Development lab, she hopes to gain a better understanding of attention issues affecting youth, especially those within underrepresented groups. She is currently in the Accelerated Masters program for Experimental Psychology. After she completes her Masters, she plans to get her Ph.D in Experimental Psych after a gap-year to pursue a Fulbright.

    Camila Hernandez (she/her)

    Undergraduate Researcher

    Camila Hernandez (she/her) is a sophomore at the University of Louisville pursuing a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Spanish. She joined the lab to gain research experience in order to pursue a doctorate degree. She has experience working with children, so this lab interested her. She enjoys watching movies, reading suspense books, and spending time with her family and friends.

    Undergraduate Researcher

    Jesus is a senior at the University of Louisville pursuing a Neuroscience degree. He is a Louisville native and shares a strong bond with the city. He plans to pursue a career in research with interests in bipolar disorder, abuse, and depression. His intent for joining the AND Lab is to begin gaining research experience but most importantly, to serve the local community in the process. Other than his studies, he enjoys to read, indulge in movies, explore music, and spend time with friends and family.

    Randy Mitchell (she/her)

    Undergraduate Researcher

    Randy Mitchell (she/her) is a junior at the University of Louisville pursuing a B.S. degree in Psychology with a minor in Interdisciplinary Data Sciences. She joined the lab in order to gain familiarity with a research setting and having an interest in the development of different cognitive functions. Through her time at the lab she hopes to develop her own research interest for grad school, although she is in little rush for that stage in life. In her free time you can find her baking, reading, or spending time with her friends and family.

    Max Shuman (he/him)

    Undergraduate Researcher

    Max is a sophomore neuroscience major originally from Baltimore, Maryland. He loves to work with kids and neuroscience is a big interest of his, so being able to do research with both is amazing for him! He wants to become a pediatrician in the future, so getting early experience working with kids and interacting with them in a professional manner is an essential skill for him. In his free time, he likes to read, go rock climbing, and cook. He looks forward to the research projects that he’ll be a part of!
